I Am:

-The wife that has to wonder why people put golf and bowling on tv, really television, you would subject me to this?!

-Just figuring out that none of my students are afraid of me, and I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THEY AREN'T!

-Ready for a week off.... April 1-5 can't come soon enough!

-Going to graduate. From college. IN 62 DAYS.

I find myself enjoying the children even as they drive me crazy.  As a whole, student teaching is going well.  I just struggle with those 6ish boys that have a life goal of making my life as stressful as possible.  But I think, if it didn't come from them, it would come from somewhere else.  This Thursday is the last day of the trimester, and then I will have some different students, maybe I will lose the 2 worst of my 6.  Just a little bit of wishful thinking. :)

This Week I Learned:

  • That if you are the principal, you can have a key to the vending machine and have free soda. Every day. (I guess it's ok though, he gave me a Sunkist.)
  • A fart machine, at 1045 pm, over an intercom can be really funny.
  • No matter how many times you tell someone exactly where something is, unless they are a non-teenager, they probably won't find it.
  • About The Sexy Pilgrim. Thank you, Matthew.
  • That with this small device, I can actually HOLD. THE. POWER. with the children.

Student Teaching: 3

Today was a really crappy day. The first one that I've had in my student teaching. My lessons went fine, and we accomplished everything that I wanted to. BUT there are some kids in my 3rd and 6th periods that just made my day crappy. I hate that.

In Ancient World History, we were talking about Ways of Life in China. 2nd hour went really well. Those children get a gold star, each. 3rd hour, there are about SIX boys that are all kinds of chatty. I had to struggle to restrain myself from saying very bad words to these children.[Very bad words that I don't even say!] They make my life difficult. I do understand that it is right before lunch, but SERIOUSLY children?!

In U.S. History, we were talking about our National Anthem. Much like my other classes, 5th hour went really well. I even let them do some group work. 6th hour, I have 3 boys that are just crazy LOUD. One in particular.

Today slayed me.

Today was a day that if I had wanted to start drinking, today would be a good day to start.

Today is a day where I wish that I owned a machete or something. Not to use on the children (but to use on things that I imagined were the children). Just so that I can cut and smash some stuff up. Is that too much to ask?

Now that I've written it down, I am ready to put it away, because I have to go back to school tomorrow.

Oh the children.

Children These Days

My Ancient World History kids made board games about Rome last week. They had to create trivia questions and chance cards. This one is by far my favorite...

Incorporating The Good Things

We are so cool that we used to play our own cooking show....
Presenting:
Mrs. Fields, Miss Fields, and Ms. Fields!
We were all about incorporating the ingredients. Am I right Danielle and Ashley (SHOUTOUT)?

Student Teaching: 2

Second round of highlights anyone? I think so.

We were watching a movie in my Ancient World History classes the other day. I hadn't ever seen the movie before and didn't pay too much attention as I started the movie. Half an hour later my cooperating teacher came back into the room... "Is this the video about the Mongols?"
"I think.... Is that the wrong one?"
"Yeah. But its almost over."
[GAH] After he left again, I asked the children, "Why didn't anyone tell me that we weren't getting any of the answers?!" (stop movie, go to menu, find the right one, restart the movie, apologize to the children) I can only multi-task so much!

There is a girl in one of my U.S. History classes that bounces around from teacher to teacher, I get to be the lucky one to have her recently. We had a Question of the Day that was 'What would you do with $1 Million?' This lovely child's answer was that she would buy a lot of 'piggies.' A couple days later as I was walking around the room I noticed that she had a colored picture of a dinosaur on her binder, so I asked her which she liked more out of piggies or dinosaurs. She looked at me so surprised, almost gawking at me and said, "You remembered?!"
Of course I did little girl, of course I did.

In my U.S. History classes I've been moving through the current chapter really fast (inadvertently people! I'M LEARNING!) And so as I am trying to slow things down and re-evaluate we took a break from the chapter today. I let the children work on their assignments as I taught them about Groundhog Day. Why did we learn about Groundhog Day? Because. I. CAN. And tomorrow is Groundhog Day. Late last night after I got home from work I tried to find a short clip from the movie Groundhog Day to show with my mini-lesson. I was pleasantly surprised to find it on instant netflix. I found a clip and went to bed. Today when I got to the classroom and tried to get my clip up, it has suddenly become unavailable on instant netflix. FAIL. Plan B. Search youtube for a few minutes to find something appropriate and hopefully equally as entertaining (Right). I came up with this... Punxsutawney Phil.

That is all I can think of right now. All classes are mine now though. That is both good and overwhelming. If you see me and I look a little bit ragged, I probably need a hug. No pressure.
